Corrective Action Training: Tailgating
This Corrective Action Training module provides drivers with remedial training related to tailgating. Specifically, this course is designed to remind drivers to maintain a safe space between vehicles, avoid accidents, and to consider weather and speed.
After completing this course, drivers will be able to:
- Explain the potential consequences of tailgating.
- Describe how to tell if you have enough space in front of your vehicle.
- Discuss the importance of braking distance and what factors can affect it.
- Introduction
- Tailgating can lead to collisions or loss of driving privileges.
- Count the seconds to maintain a safe gap.
- Drive slower than the traffic around you if necessary.
- Decide how much space you need based on your braking distance.
- Know the braking distance needed to safely stop your vehicle.
- Consider all factors when determining braking distance.
- Adjust your speed and space to prevent rear-end crashes.

Testing conducted throughout this online course is designed to reinforce the information presented. A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are able to repeat the course twice if the pass mark is not achieved.
Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing.
