Safe and Smart New Driver Training Program: Defensive Driving: Extreme Driving Conditions
This course is designed to help CMV drivers learn how to prepare for driving in extreme conditions and operate safely when they encounter them.
Extreme driving conditions can increase the demand for preparation and awareness. Extreme weather conditions and terrain can increase the difficulty for even best professional drivers.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify common ways to prepare for driving in adverse weather conditions
- Discuss how to safely operate a vehicle in snow, ice, wind, rain, and fog
- Explain ways to stay safe in extreme heat or cold temperatures
- Recognize the challenges of driving on steep grades and around sharp curves

A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion. Users are able to repeat the course twice if the pass mark is not achieved.
Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available to download and print.
